Screamed onto the indie scene in 2007.
It all started with a smoke and a question about Staind… ? That fateful day would become the day that Ethanol would begin. For the most part of 2008 Ethanol-58 have been a 4 piece rock band and grew to a 5 piece, with amazing riffs and chest pounding kick ass rhythm. For some bands, a drummer is a drummer, just someone to keep the beat, but for Ethanol-58 Regal provides the backbone to the bands sound, and bass guitarist Kort matches him perfectly. Aidan rips up the riffs and blows the audience away with his matching energy and backing vocals, while Ben keeps the bands rhythm in check. Chris has become a vocal force to reckon with. In most bands of this musical talent you would expect screaming vocals that never cut through, however, Chris changes the format by adding catchy lyrics and melodies to each hard out tune, and completes this bands magic. It is one thing to read or hear how great a band is but to see Ethanol-58 live on stage is an exhilarating experience. The band has more energy than the power it takes to run the sound system and the fans know it as they form a mosh pit that is not fit for the faint hearted. This band is definately heading for rock stardom.
Elepho
Formed in 2002, it was a dream project between co-founders Connery Faire and Mark Brady AKA Spider.
Spider and Faire held auditions in late 2002 and secured Joe Teinakore on drums and Jamie Wipiiti on lead guitar. Drummer Teinakore soon changed the comfortable songwriting styles of Faire and Spider with his time signature changes and upbeat rhythms. The band quickly wrote some catchy tunes and utilised both Faire and Spiders lyrical and vocal talents. Sadly, Jamie left the band to pursue other interests while the other three plundered on. After 5 years of different lineups on guitar and bass, they decided to stick with Connery Faire as their bass player. Lead guitarists have come and gone but Spider (although a rhythm guitarist) added lead lines and elements to their debut album in the studio.
Originally named "Last Flight Out (LFO)", they changed their name in 2007, although it is still pronounced "LFO". The band remains a 3 piece and still packs a punch on the stage.
Elephos' debut album "Autonomy" was released in May 2008 (NZ Music Month).
